“Not bad at all, though I’d prefer not to have almost died for energy that will only get me an eighth of the way to the next rank,” Morgan said, absorbing the energy and attribute points.

“Only an eighth of the way?” Percival asked. “That doesn’t make any sense. If you’re at rank 29, then the amount of energy in that core should have pushed you more than a quarter of the way to the next one.”

“Yeah, it works a little differently for supermages,” Morgan said, quickly checking his status.

“How much more are we talking about?” Percival asked as Morgan closed it.

“Why does it matter?”

“Because we’ll have to do a lot more beast hunting than I’d planned if what you’re saying is true. I’ll have to significantly alter my plans, so I need to know how much.”

Morgan nodded.

“To reach the next rank, I’ll need a total of 400,000 energy. Right now I’ve got a bit over 61,000.”

Percival’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head.

“That’s a load of bullshit! I’m at rank 36, and I only need 280,000 to the next one!”

“Don’t ask me why, I didn’t decide how much it would cost,” he said with a shrug, pulling up his status to see how much upgrading his skills would cost, and if it was worth using some of his attribute points to raise them.
